What is International Mobile Equipment Identity?

Nowadays, science and technology have really progressed a lot. There are so many things that are available to make life easier. One such thing that has really revolutionized the world is the introduction of mobile phones. Now, you can easily get in touch with anyone who may be anywhere in the world. Surely, mobile phones have really rocked the world. However, when it comes to mobiles, there are few things which you must know. Information about different terms associated with mobiles can really help you to get benefited from your phones in an even better way. One such thing is International Mobile Equipment Identity.

International Mobile Equipment Identity is simply known as IMEI. It basically is a number which separates mobiles from one another. You will find a different IMEI number for different GSM and UMTS mobile phones and you can easily distinguish between different phones of similar model. GSM network always relies on this number to identify the mobiles and grant access to the network. It is one of the most important things to understand that GSM grants access only to valid devices and if there will be a stolen mobile; you can really proceed to stop that mobile from accessing the network. GSM network can really do so as they keep this number stored in Equipment Identity Register.

When you will checkout the IMEI number of your mobile, you will find that it comes in groups. However, it is obligatory to mention that the format of IMEI number is subjected to change. It means that it may not be displayed in the same way in different mobiles. One group is supposed to show the TAC that is Type Allocation Code. Apart from TAC, you will find the serial sequence of model that will give some information about the manufacturer. You will also find a Software Version Number in the IMEI number which completes the number.

Now, there is another important thing to discuss which is about getting the information pertaining to IMEI number. Typically, you can get information by entering *#06#. However, that can be different for different manufacturers, so, you will have to get information about retrieving the IMEI information for your specific mobile. So, it is essential to get information about your IMEI number. However, there is only one thing that reduces the benefits of IMEI number and the thing is about the softwares. There are quite a few softwares available in the market that can really work to change your IMEI number. That’s the only thing to consider, but, IMEI can still help you to enhance the security.

So, if you have ever wondered about the number that can be found under the battery of mobile, then you must stop wondering as it is the IMEI number of your mobile phone. You must always understand its importance as it can really help you to take certain security measures. So, it is essential to know about your IMEI number and the functions that it performs as you never know when you will be in need for this number.
